Local sourcing of raw materials reduces our CO2 emission

September, 2021

By 2025, 90% of DAFA Group’s raw materials used for our solutions should stem from local sourcing. Local sourcing at DAFA means that we purchase raw materials from suppliers located in the same continent as the DAFA subsidiary that uses the raw material.

At DAFA, we combine decades of experience with a fundamental principle of sustainability in all our business decisions. Therefore, as part of our goal to reduce our CO2 emissions with 50% by production hour by 2025, we actively strive to use local sourcing of raw materials for our solutions in the vast majority of the time.

Local sourcing is beneficial for a number of reasons. By locally sourcing our raw materials, we can collaborate closely with our partners and support the local community in which the given subsidiary operates. Importantly, it allows us to substantially decrease the level of emissions associated with transportation across borders and overseas.

Nonetheless, as we value uncompromising product quality, it necessitates global sourcing in instances where the materials domestically do not live up to our standards.

Our goal is for 90% of the raw materials used for our solutions at DAFA Group to stem from local sourcing by 2025.

During the first three quarters of 2021, the entire DAFA Group, on average, managed to source 81.5% of the raw materials locally. Also, despite a growing level of activity, we have, on average, succeeded in improving DAFA Group's use of local sourcing year by year. For instance, our subsidiary in Italy went from using locally sourced raw materials 73.3% of the time in 2018, whereas it grew to 92% by 2020. Therefore, we can confidently state that we aspire to and predict that we will meet the set goal for 2025.

Furthermore, our recent initiative of optimizing the way we stack goods on pallets means that they take up less space during transportation, which reduces CO2 emissions. Also, as DAFA operates across 8 countries worldwide and has production facilities in 4 countries, we can further limit emissions related to the transportation of our solutions. Therefore, with our global supply chain, we are close to the markets and close to you.

“By using local sourcing the vast majority of the time, DAFA is able to limit emissions caused by transportation. Currently, 81.5% of DAFA Group’s raw materials stem from local sourcing. Though we are quite proud of this percentage, we aim to continuously improve. Therefore, our goal is that by 2025, 90% of DAFA Group’s raw materials should be locally sourced.”
