VDI 6022 is a set of technical guidelines to ensure good hygiene in ventilation systems.
German working environment legislation requires that ventilation systems be maintained, to ensure that no pathogenic organisms or harmful chemical substances are emitted. When a system complies with the VDI 6022 guidelines, this is a guarantee that the ventilation system has been designed, manufactured, installed and maintained so as to ensure that people in the rooms being ventilated do not become ill, and that the rooms are pleasant to be in.
In addition to the federal working environment legislation, there is also local legislation in some German states that sets requirements for ventilation system maintenance.
The VDI 6022 guidelines apply in the DACH countries: Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The Association of German Engineers (VDI) has prepared and maintains the guidelines. There are VDI guidelines covering a range of different fields.
